How to Care for Your Projection Necklace and Projection Bracelet?

Projection jewelry gifts have been in style recently, with a projection stone in the center that can project the custom photo onto a wall with a beam of light.

So, how to care for your photo projection necklace or projection bracelet? (You can jump to the final part for conclusions!)

First, you should know the material of your jewelry piece. 99% of the projection pendents out there are made with one of these three metals: sterling silver, stainless steel and brass.

Most of our necklaces with photo projection are made with high quality 925 silver. For our personalized projection bracelet collection, the braided ones are made with brass or stainless silver, and the rest are made with sterling silver.

Care Tips for Stainless Steel Projection Jewelry

Stainless steel is a popular material for jewelry because it’s highly durable compared with other softer materials. Its silvery finish looks similar to precious metals such as gold and silver, but more affordable. It can withstand the wear and tear of most daily activities, and is resistant to corrosion and scratches. In addition, it doesn’t tarnish as easily as silver.

If your bracelet with micro picture is made of stainless steel, it requires minimal maintenance.

Many may ask, is stainless steel waterproof? Can I wear my projection bracelet to shower, the beach or the pool? What if I forget to take it off?

The short answer is, yes, you can.

Stainless steel consists of several compounds, including an element called chromium. When your bracelet project is exposed to water, chromium helps form a thin layer that resist corrosion.

If you forget to take if off before getting into shower, don’t fret. But we suggest you avoid exposing it to hot water for a long time, and don’t expose it to chemicals such as shampoo or body lotions, because they may damage chromium.

We know you want to show off your projection picture bracelet when you hang out with friends on the beach. You can do this! But please remember not to expose it to sea water for a long time. The chemicals in the ocean may erode the material.

What about the pool? Please note that stainless can withstand pure water, but the pool is filled with chlorine that is bad to stainless steel. It’s okay if you forget to take it off once or twice, but entering the pool without it is better.

Care Tips for Sterling Silver Projection Necklaces and Bracelets

Sterling silver often has a higher price tag than stainless steel and brass. Silver is beautiful and versatile. It doesn’t rust easily, although it may tarnish over time. 925 silver is hypoallergenic and some people believe it has a healing power.

In addition, it’s easy to maintain. Sterling silver is durable and lasting. A sterling silver projection necklace can look as good as new if you provide good maintenance.

It’s easy to clean, too. Simply wipe with a clean, soft cloth.

Again, here comes the important questions --- can I wear my silver projective necklace to the pool? Can I get it wet in shower? Can I go to the beach with my silver projecting bracelet?

Pure water doesn’t damage sterling silver. But we see everywhere that it's not suggested to get your blings wet. That’s because water may cause your sterling silver photo necklace to darken quickly. The process is called oxidization.

Wiping it with a s polishing cloth or a clean, soft cloth with warm water will make it shining again. If this doesn’t work, add a little soap or toothpaste to the cloth and wipe again.

Care Tips for Brass Based Photo Projection Jewelry

Like stainless steel, bronze or brass is a more affordable metal than sterling silver. It’s also durable and easy to clean. Brass offers a similar color to silver, with a slight golden hue. Brass is a great choice for people who are not allergic to copper.

How about getting yours wet if it's made of bronze?

Again we think it’s okay to wear it to the beach or to the shower once or twice. Bronze doesn’t rust easily in water because it contains very low level of iron. However, it contains an alloy called copper that can oxidize and create a green tint on your skin, if you expose your picture bracelet to water for a long time.

Like silver, bronze tarnishes over time. We recommend wiping it with a polishing cloth. Adding a drop of olive oil can help bring back its luster.

Final Thoughts

You can happily wear your photo projection bracelet or your necklace with picture inside to the beach, to the pool or in a shower! It's such a pleasure to show off your bling and the interior photo to people around!

We do suggest the following tips, though, if you want to keep your pieces long:

  • Clean it if it’s exposed to chemicals such as chlorine, soap and salt water.
  • Avoid long-time exposure to water, especially hot water.
  • Put it in a jewelry box or pouch when you’re not using it, to reduce exposure to moisture and chemicals. Each Customodish photo necklace projection and projection photo bracelet comes with a free jewelry box, a jewelry pouch, and a silver cloth for easy care.
